Munich Jewish: München City Guide, Bayern, Oktoberfest, Schloss Neuschwanstein, Dachau

  • Herrenchiemsee Palace

The solitary island Herrenchiemsee in beautiful lake Chiemsee was bought in 1873 by King Ludwig II. Of Bavaria. He wanted to realize one of his dreams, his own copy of Versailles Palace. In its monumental architecture and opulent furnishings this palace became the young Bavarian King’s most sumptuous one. All over, also in the park, reference is made to the French Bourbon Kings whom he greatly admired. The romantic place, which can be reached by passenger boats is one of the touristic highlights south of Munich.
